The Consular section processes applications for new passports. New passports can generally be obtained within two weeks, and you may keep your existing passport until the new one arrives. Frequent travelers should note that the fee for the 28 page and 52 page passport books is the same. Choosing the 52 page book can reduce the need for adding additional pages in the future.
What to Bring to Your Appointment

- Completed Form DS-82
- One passport photo
- Your current passport
How do I pay?
You can pay in cash at the Embassy. The fee for the passport is $130.00, payable in U.S. dollars or 78,000 FCFA. The Embassy accepts either dollars or FCFA, but not a combination of both.
How long will it take to process?
The passport is produced in the U.S. and mailed to the Embassy. You can usually pick it up two weeks after submitting the application. We will contact you when it is ready.
Can I keep my old passport?
Yes. You can keep the old passport while the new one is being processed. We will cancel and return your old passport on the day you pick up the new one.
My passport was lost or stolen. What should I do?
Bring government issued photo identification and proof of U.S. citizenship such as your birth or naturalization certificate. Complete passport application Form DS-11 and Statement Regarding a Lost or Stolen Passport Form DS-64 instead of Form DS-82. Please do not sign the forms until requested to do so by the Consular Officer at your appointment. There is an additional $35 execution fee for a total of $165 or 99,000 FCFA.
I have recently changed my name. Can I change it on the passport?
You can change the name on your passport free of charge if it was issued within a year, otherwise you will need to apply for a new passport. Please provide proof that you have legally changed your name and bring Form DS-5504.
