Embassy Libreville commemorates Martin Luther King Day

The Embassy of the United States, in partnership with The Link, a Gabonese English language association, commemorated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Wednesday, February 12, by organizing several activities at the John Lewis American Corner in Libreville.

The event brought together 76 participants from English clubs of various schools in the Gabonese capital.

In his remarks to the students, Deputy Chief of Mission Christopher Tremann highlighted one of the fundamental values of Marin Luther King: using nonviolent methods to confront injustice.

To honor the nonviolent methods the modern U.S. Civil Rights Movement used, the theme of the Corner’s event was “Nonviolence for a Better World. ” Students from Jean Hilaire Obame Eyeghe, St Marie de Libreville, Abraham Lincoln, les Loupiots, Paul Indjendjet Gondjout and Mohamed Harissani competed in events and gave presentations, paying a vibrant tribute to Pastor King and celebrating his legacy.
