On September 10, 2014, Embassy Libreville’s Chargé d’Affaires Katherine Brucker hosted representatives of the Gabonese Association YEMALY as part of a Back to School Book Donation for Gabonese children living in orphanages in Libreville and Port-Gentil.
The U.S. Embassy supports activities that aim at empowering youth, and along with YEMALY, this donation will provide books for 100 back-to-school backpacks, giving these children an opportunity to read a range of books by a variety of American authors translated into French.
“These books will encourage young students to enjoy reading while providing a window into American culture,” Public Affairs Officer Ben Ellis noted. “We look forward to doing more activities like this within the local community that ultimately enrich the lives of youth.”
