Chargé d’Affaires Robert Whitehead hosted a lunch for the 2019 Mandela Washington Fellows at his residence on Wednesday March 11. The returning Mandela Fellows shared their US experience during the lunch while praising the program and comparing the United States policies to Gabon’s.
The discussion covered the volunteerism aspect in the United States and how people from all walks of life and all age categories are civically engaged. The Fellows were inspired by the connecting power of Americans and how resourceful they are.
The fellows also discussed disability rights in the U.S. the fellows felt very empowered by the progress in the U.S. and the freedom the disabled have – including access to public buildings, elevators and other advantages.
